More Detailed Information

Radios allow a number of services to be provided either more effectively, more efficiently or both. The Radio Team members are trained to provide a number of support services taking advantage of communication equipment; an event organizer is able to control these services from a single point, working through experienced radio operators. Additional related services, such as telephone systems and public address systems can also be provided. Team members have experience in supporting a wide variety of events, and may also be able to help with the organization of your event.

The Surrey Scout Radio Team is composed of members of the older sections of the Scout and Guide Movements who can provide communications, co-ordination or control facilities for YOUR event.

Using modern VHF radios, operating on Scout Association frequencies, the Team can set up and run several radio networks at once with up to 40 stations. Effective control of an event for the event organizer is provided through a central control station for the networks. The radios can be operated either in vehicles or in hand held mode.

All of our operators are fully trained and can provide the required services without you or others on your staff needing to worry about how to operate a radio or having to listen to irrelevant background chatter.
[ Please note: The radios used are restricted to Radio Team trained members only, and cannot be supplied for used by non-team members under the terms of our license from the Scout Association and RadioCommunications Agency.]

Keeping in Touch
The Radio Team can provide events and activities with onsite radio links, telephone links up to 20 lines (although these take a while to set up) and inter site links by radio and if required the use of Relay sites if the terrain precludes direct links.

Traffic Control
For controlling one way traffic on approach roads or coordinating car parking. Our older members are trained in “Point Duty” and can work in conjunction with the local constabulary to provide the event organizers with overall strategic control of traffic movements. For Larger events where the scope for driver frustration may be greater, the Radio Team Fellowship (all former experienced members of the Team) will work in conjunction with the team.

Public Address Systems
The Radio Team have a number of systems ranging from 30watts to 400watts - enough to cover most indoor and outdoor events. The systems come with Radio Mics or Conventional Mics and are available to events where the Radio Team is assisting the event organisers with other activities that we offer.

Security
This is a service we can offer to large camps or major Scouting events where safety of young people is an important factor. All Team members work in pairs and wear High Visibility garments and use radios for direct contact with a central control were decisions can be made and back patrols provided when appropriate. When required the Radio Team can provide radio communications to work along side the organizer’s own personnel. We are unable to provide security (eg. door staff or bouncers) for public events.

Search
The whole process of searching for missing persons can be achieved more efficiently with radios being controlled from a single point. Rescue teams and recovery vehicles can be directed to locations more quickly and the information held confidently in the Radio Logs should such information be required at a later date.

Charges

To cover costs of maintenance the following suggested donations are requested these are based on a daily rate (8hours) attendance fee for eight members of the Team with radios. Longer events and other requirements should be discussed with the Team at the earliest opportunity.

For events covering more than a single meal we would ask the host event to contribute to catering costs.
Transport costs during events and for delivery of equipment to site and if applicable camping fees etc., will be expected to be met by the host event.
